A storyteller by nature, Erin McCann is fascinated with telling the stories of Public Education. A product of Texas Public Schools, Erin joined the School PR world in 2015 and currently works for Allen ISD in Allen, Texas as the Director of Digital Marketing and Media.
In 2017, Erin began to experiment in the audio world by beginning production on two different podcasts – one personal and one professional. Three years later, both podcasts are continuing production and boast 11,000 downloads on one, and 6,000 downloads on the second. The success of these projects led her to create a third podcast specifically for Allen ISD where she works. Still in its fledgling months, The Allen Voices is receiving strong analytics.
Erin is also exceptionally proud of her family. She is a proud fire wife to Kevin, a member of the Rowlett Fire Department, and mom to two very special, and wonderful children, 7 year old Fiona and new addition Liam.
In 2018, Erin was named to the National School Public Relations Association biannual list of 35 people under the age of 35 to watch in school PR.
Erin completed her certification through Texas Christian University in Public Communication in 2019 and was awarded the 2020 Texas School Public Relations Association’s award for best “Bright Idea,” for her work on the School PR Happy Hour Podcast.
Seeking additional education opportunities is important to Erin, and she is a Master’s student at Sacred Heart University, studying strategic communication.
During this episode, we spoke with Erin about her career journey and the current challenges among school PR professionals.
