Content creation can be a powerful way to make a difference. With a clear call to action, any type of content can make an impact. Through social media posts, young content creators can build support for causes not only in their school but their community as well. It’s a great way to bring people together around a common goal and empower students to share their voice.
Step 1: Find a Topic That Can Bring Your Community Together
I choose to use the example of sustainability. Which means working together across Earth’s ecosystems to maintain the function of its system. An Earth-related topic is great for bringing the community together and involving others in activities that benefit the environment.
Step 2: Partner With Local Organizations That Have Similar Goals
A local organization that I have worked with to write stories involving sustainability is Keep Cass County Beautiful. It is a local non-profit organization that has a mission to inspire and educate individuals to take action to improve and beautify the environment. Their vision is to create a community where everyone enjoys a clean, green, and beautiful place to live, work, and play.
Step 3: Develop a Series of Interactive Posts
Using graphic design platforms like Canva can help you create visually appealing content to engage your audience. One best practice is to invite viewers to interact with your post via Call to Action. For my example, I used a QR code that link viewers directly to the article I wrote on the topic.
Editor’s Note:
The following is a step-by-step walkthrough created by Alyssa Batt, a student content creator from a public high school in Nebraska. At Class Intercom, we’re passionate about empowering content creators to learn new skills and evolve existing ones. That includes formal instruction in the classroom, learning by doing, and experimenting with tools and ideas. The next step is sharing that knowledge with others. The Insights from Student Content Creators series allows students to share their knowledge and experiences with a global audience.
How I Made the Infographic:
I utilized a Canva template that was already created and edited to match the color combinations that would match the ambiance of the Earth graphic I chose to use. I added elements like a QR code and arrows to make the infographic more visually appealing and easier to follow. Adding a call to action through a QR code helped guide my audience to take action and supported my goal of encouraging the community to read my article.
