The Nebraska School Public Relations Association (NebSPRA) honored Mindy Burbach, Executive Director of Communications for Lincoln Public Schools, as the 2025 Nebraska School Communicator of the Year. The award, which is proudly sponsored by Class Intercom, was presented at NebSPRA’s annual communications conference on November 20th, with colleagues, family, and friends joining in the celebration. The Nebraska School Communicator of the Year (SCOY) Award recognizes front-line school communicators who excel in building trust and understanding through their craft.
Recognizing Excellence
Described by her peers as compassionate, proactive, and visionary, Mindy exemplifies leadership in school communications. Her work is a testament to the power genuine and authentic storytelling can have on a school district’s ability to reach and engage community members. This includes families with students actively enrolled within the district, as well as residents within the district’s jurisdiction.
Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) is the second-largest public school district in Nebraska, serving over 42,000 students across more than 70 schools and programs. Established in 1923, the district has a longstanding reputation for educational excellence and rigorous academic achievement. Its elementary, middle, and high schools serve the city’s population of nearly 350,000 residents.
“Mindy has earned the trust, respect, and admiration of her colleagues, the district leadership team, and the greater Lincoln community,” Class Intercom President, Jill Johnson, Ed.D shared during the award presentation. “Her communication strategies have not only amplified the voices of students and staff but have also created a foundation for relationships and community support rooted in trust, transparency, and understanding.”
Additional Award Finalists
The SCOY Award also celebrated two outstanding finalists: Rebecca Kleeman, Director of Communications for Millard Public Schools and Mitchell Roush, Director of Communications & Marketing for Grand Island Public Schools.
“I’m certainly not surprised to see these outstanding individuals and their districts on the list of finalists,” said Dr. Jill. “It’s truly an honor to work with people so dedicated to their craft and school communities.”
